Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has urged fans to be positive as they return to the Championship.

The Clarets closed their campaign with defeat to Nottingham Forest.

"Look, first of all we conceded two shots and two goals really quickly and it could have gone on to be one of those days, but I thought we grew into the game and could have nicked a draw at the end" said Kompany.

"It was a good response from the team, we gave ourselves a chance to get a result and didn't stop fighting. You have to be clinical in both boxes, otherwise you don't get your rewards.

"We created a few chances and could have had a few more goals, but we won't sit feeling sorry four ourselves it's almost drawing a line under it now and there's an exciting future ahead.

"We have a really strong squad, not quite ready for the Premier League yet I'll be honest, but Championship wise it's a very, very exciting squad and hopefully they can get back to the Premier League.

"You saw Forest celebrating there at the end on our pitch and we don't take anything for granted the Championship is very tough but hopefully it's us celebrating on the pitch on the final day next season."
