The Arizona Coyotes have recalled forward Josh Doan from the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners, PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reported Sunday.

Doan, 22, leads all first-year AHL players with 26 goals in 62 games with Tucson this season. He also represented the Roadrunners at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose.

The Coyotes originally selected Doan in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. This is his first recall into the NHL with the Coyotes.

Shane Doan, Josh’s father, previously worked in the Coyotes organization and is the Coyotes/Jets franchise’s all-time record holder in practically every meaningful statistical category.

The Coyotes originally drafted Doan as a re-entry prospect from the USHL’s Chicago Steel. He went on to spent two seasons in the NCAA with the Arizona State University Sun Devils, serving as team captain in 2022-23.

Doan turned pro with the Roadrunners at the tail end of the 2022-23 season, collecting three goals and six points in his first 14 AHL games. He added an assist in three 2023 Calder Cup Playoff games with Tucson.

The Roadrunners have been one of the top teams in the AHL Pacific Division this season, currently sitting in second place behind the Coachella Valley Firebirds with a 36-21-5 record and 77 points in 62 games.

Doan leads all Tucson skaters with 26 goals and 46 points in 62 games and ranks third among all AHL rookies on the point-scoring leaderboard, behind only Logan Stankoven and Brad Lambert.

Before joining the Steel organization, Doan honed his game in the growing Phoenix Jr. Coyotes development program. With the Steel, he played alongside the likes of Matt Coronato, Mackie Samoskevich, Sean Farrell, Ryan Ufko, Adam Fantilli, Jackson Blake, and fellow Coyotes prospect Sam Lipkin.

Doan is set to join a Coyotes team that fell by a 4-2 score against the Dallas Stars at Mullett Arena on Sunday night. The Coyotes currently rank seventh in the Central Division with a 29-37-5 record and 63 points in 71 games this season.

It remains to be seen whether Doan will make his NHL debut when the Coyotes return to action at Mullett Arena against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.
