Steelers' Dan Moore Jr. Admits He Still Isn't Comfortable Playing Right Tackle
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle, Dan Moore Jr. has started 49 games over the past three seasons. He hasn't been stellar by any means and neither has the offensive line as a whole during that timeframe. In an effort to beef up the offensive line, the Steelers traded up in the 2023 NFL Draft with the New England Patriots to take left tackle Broderick Jones out of Georgia. Even after drafting a left tackle in the first round, Moore Jr. was able to retain his starting role at left tackle in 2023 however, mainly because he wasn't comfortable moving to right tackle. Organized Team Activities started on Tuesday in Pittsburgh and it appears he hasn't gotten any more comfortable with playing right tackle.

It looks like Moore Jr. is being pushed out of the starting lineup and more than likely not a part of General Manager Omar Khan's future plans with the team. Both of Khan's prized first-round pick tackles, Troy Fautanu and Jones have the ability to play on both sides, as well as the ability to do it at a higher level than Moore Jr. can.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Brian Batko caught up with Moore on Tuesday .

Jones and Fautanu are willing to play either position, as long as they can get on the field. The same can't be said about Moore Jr. and it's hard to imagine either Fautanu or Jones being on the bench in favor of Moore Jr. by midseason of 2024. Moore Jr.'s willingness to do whatever the team tells him to do is great, but he's going to need to find some versatility in his game if he wants to help the Steelers in the 2024 season.

Steelers Are Poised To Continue Upgrading O-Line

The Steelers front office is clearly not satisfied with how the offensive line has played over the last few seasons. They've spent two first rounders and a second on offensive linemen over the past two drafts, and they went out and signed two very quality guards in Isaac Seumalo and James Daniels in the 2022 and 2023 offseasons.

It's hard to believe that they'd make all of these moves to fill all five spots on the offensive line with guys they really like and still give Moore Jr. a starting spot, but stranger things have happened. Whoever starts the season at left tackle will be expected to play at a very high level, and if that ends up being Moore Jr., he might be on a short leash with a young first rounder waiting in the wings.
