The New Orleans Saints made a free agency splash on Monday. They reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with pass rusher Chase Young. It's a one-year deal worth $13 million fully guaranteed.
Apparently, there was a deeper reason that Young chose to join the Saints. Fans may not have been aware of it before today, either.
Chase Young went into free agency wanting a deal to see himself up for the future. And he wanted to play with Cam Jordan. ✅ and. ✅ https://t.co/F4Aivw5Aa5

Cam is a beloved player around the league and the Saints fan base. He's clearly made an impact on Young during his time in the NFL.
Young slots in to compete for a starting role off the edge for New Orleans. Carl Granderson was extended last year and was the top producer for the team's pass rush in 2023. Meanwhile, Jordan struggled with injuries and had the worst season of his veteran career.
I’m told Chase Young’s recruiting pitch started at dinner last night with All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, HC Dennis Allen, DC Joe Woods and D-Line coach Todd Grantham.

Synergy matters! Clearly Young felt it with the #Saints. https://t.co/cbvHsWMtv8
Young is a former second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. His upside has not been reached, and he may never live up to the sort of hype that surrounded him before the draft.
That being said, the addition is a big swing by the Saints, and it could pay off in a major way for them.
